Marbled Catsharks

Marbled Catsharks

Marbled catsharks have their habitats in shallow water and in coral. They eat squid, shrimp, and small fish. They are nocturnal-this means they are awake and eat at night.
Their size is two feet as an adult and are four inches when born. They are spotted.

My Dream
I fell asleep on my bed,
I dreamed that I was dead.
My dream had no meaning,
I'm glad I was dreaming,
And didn't fall out of my bed.

running through deserts,
viscous as can be,
SCORPION!!!!!!!

Gum

Gum
By: Taylor

It's not a food
It's not a drink
It's not a toilet
It's not a sink
It's not something used to
Brush your teeth
It's gum
God did not make it
But He made man
Who thought of it
And made us glad :)
Do not swallow
Only chew
It will help your breath
And its something to do
Chew all day
Chew all night
Try new flavors
You just might like
But even chewing in fog
Always make time for God

Velvet Belly Lantern Shark

Velvet Belly Lantern Shark
Written by: Holly

The Velvet Belly Lantern shark lives in deep waters in the North Eastern Atlantic Ocean. It lives very close to the bottom of the ocean in depths between 500 and 1,500 feet! However, it has been found at depths of 7,000 feet – that is more than a mile down! Because of how deep it lives, it makes it extremely hard for predators living above to find it.
The Velvet Belly Lantern shark eats lots of small things. It eats squids, other smaller sharks, crustaceans, and bony fish. It eats a lot more than what I listed.
It is very rare for it to be over 2 feet long. It weighs about 2 pounds.
The Velvet Belly Lantern shark does not migrate back and forth like others sharks. However, it migrates vertically to reach the top sometimes. That’s why humans have not discovered a lot about it.
The Velvet Belly Lantern shark is one of the glow-in-the-dark sharks. It is a very neat shark. Like its name, its belly is black like velvet and really does glow because it produces organs that light up its belly. Its belly makes blue and green light that is visible from 9-12 feet away. It has large eyes that are extremely bright and glow brightly in the ocean. On its skin are glowing spots that are called photophores (FOH-tuh-fors). They are all over its body.
Now you know a little bit about the Velvet Belly Lantern shark. Do you know why I chose this shark? It glows. That is why I like it. Do you want to learn more about it?

Smoky Mountains

By: Regina

On my summer vacation I went to the Smokie Mountains. We drove to the Hampton Hotel, walked in, and noticed that there was water on the floor. So we packed up our luggage and left.
We drove in circles for hours and minutes before we saw a cabin. We rented a log cabin and stayed. I took out my stuff and placed it on the bathroom table. Then we headed out to the swimming pool.
The pool was fancy and huge. I almost drowned because I dove in too hard and fast. I got out of the pool and headed out to Red Lobster.
I looked at the menu and saw great choices but chose spaghetti and meatballs. The food was very delicious to me. The waiter came over to our table and asked if we wanted dessert . We agreed - no dessert. So when we left we headed out to a candy store.
At the candy store we got five bars of chocolate. Beside the store was a wildlife exhibit. I walked and saw frogs and birds. An hour later I went back to our cabin and watched T.V..
The next day we left to go back home. The trip was so much fun because I was with my family.

New York

By: Taylor

We arrived, went up to our room, looked out the window from the the twenty-first floor, and saw a magnificent structure - the Empire State building. It was a really nice view. It lit up bright at night. We all relaxed for a little while, then got ready to go see the big city itself – New York city.
First off, we got delicious hotdogs with everything on them, even sauerkraut which
I normally hate. After we ate we went to Time Square. When we finally got there, it was huge! Flashy signs, tall buildings, busy streets - it was pretty cool. We walked awhile before we saw the world's biggest Toys R Us store. My little brother, Ryan, was asleep in his stroller so I had to shake him to wake him up. We went in. There was a huge Ferris wheel right in the center of the room. It went from the first floor up to the third, but it cost too much per person so we didn't go on it.
We continued on to a small store on the street to buy “I love NY” t-shirts. After we got them we went back to our hotel, rested an hour or two, and went across the street to get pizza. I had cheese, so did Krista and Ryan. My dad bought buffalo chicken for him and my mom. My mom didn't want it but she wasn't going to complain so she ate it anyway. I was happy because one of my favorite singers, Usher, had been at that restaurant before. I LOVE him!!!
The next day we walked very little. We took the subway everywhere. We had to take it to Staten Island or we would have been walking for about 10 hours.
When we got back to the hotel I got to eat a soft pretzel with mustard. It was really good! That night we went downstairs to Tik Tock diner and ate really good food. I shared a huge bowl of chicken Alfredo with Krista, and for dessert we had real New York cheese cake!
After dinner we went back up to the hotel room. Krista and I stayed awake way longer than my parents because we were on the computer playing Kudos 2.
The next morning we got up and got ready to leave. We drove to Ashville, NC to meet my grandparents because my dad wanted to save a few hours on the trip. On the ride to Ashville I was squashed in that small car. On the ride to Cookeville I was perfectly fine.
I loved New York, but I would never live there because it is super expensive. I would like to go back one day, though.

My Summer

By: Miles
This summer, my family and I bought fireworks. We went to my Memaw's house. My Pawpaw and Granny were there and we shot off fireworks. We then went home.
My Nana and Uncle Reed went with us. Uncle Reed bought a huge set of fireworks! We got out some fireworks that we called the “BAD
BOYS!” They were cool - you shoot them into the sky and they explode! When they explode a bunch of sparks come out of them.
There were some other fireworks that I liked. They were so cool too! There was a box that had a bunch of miniature missile-shaped fireworks. They were cool. You light them and they shoot out and explode. When they explode, they make a loud sound.
        What a day!

At the Beach

By: Makayla

Guess what?! This summer, I went to the beach in Virginia with my cousins. They picked me up in their car and together we drove there.
Finally we got there. I was so exited! First, I ran into the ocean and jumped over the waves. Then, I rode the waves. After playing in the ocean, I went over to get a drink. Last of all, I played in the sand and built a sand castle. It was so much fun.

Summer Vacation

By: Holly
Guess what?! This summer, I went to my granddad's house. When I went upstairs to put my things away, I saw something out the window! It was big, blue, and bulky. I wondered what it was. It was a big swimming pool, but it wasn't full of clean water. It was full of brown, yucky, rusty water. (By the way, my grandparents do not have clean water. Even the bathtub water stinks!) That night I went to bed thinking about the water.
The next morning, my uncle got a filter for the pool. When I saw my aunt in the pool, I asked, ”Why are you in that pool?” She said, “I am just swimming around.”
“Can I come in?” I asked.
       “Sure you can.”
I went inside, got my swimsuit on, and hopped in. Brrrrrrr! The water was cold, but soon I was swimming around. When I put my goggles on and went under, it was all brown. It was really weird. Then we made currents and floated in the them.
In the end, we got out. The the next day I went home.

New York City

By: Krista

When I went to New York I had a blast. I rode the subway to tons of places - like to the spot of the twin towers. It turned out they are rebuilding them.
I also like the food. My favorites are their pasta and cheesecake. The pasta has a nice creamy sauce that gives you a really good flavor, and the
cheesecake has strawberries, whipped cream, and a delicious cake. Their street hotdogs are the best.
One of my favorite places was the world's largest toy store, Toys R Us. It's huge! One of the most exciting places in New York is the statue of liberty. She is so tall and beautiful.
On Saturday, we went to central park. It was so fun! We got to play on the playground, look at their plantation garden, and I even got to pet a horse. On Sunday, we left to go back home. I had fun in New York, and one day I'll be able to go back.
When we got home we went to bed because we were all exhausted. In the morning, I got up, ate breakfast, and went outside to play with my two
best friends, Aliyah and Katelyn. We had a blast.

The Beach

By: Noelle

We were going to the beach. I liked the beach, but the driving was bad because I was sick - I thought. It was almost midnight by the time we got in, but we made it. I went to bed.
In the morning I got out of bed and got out some toys to play with. I turned on the TV. While I watched TV I made a big toy that was so cool. I showed my dad the thing I made. He said it was good. I think he wasn't telling the truth but I made do with it.
A couple hours later we went to the beach. At the beach, I went running into the water with my boogie board. The water was so cold but I made do with it. I saw lots of fish. They were so cool under the water. You could almost see the sand. You could feel the sand and sticks. I made a big big castle with my dad. There was a sea turtle nest too. I picked up a crab. It was odd - he was yellow. Most crabs are orange and red. The beach is cool.
The next day we went to the beach again. It was so hard to walk though when I finally I made it to the deep end. It was so nice. The sand felt good, but the sticks felt bad. The fish touched my feet. My feet were too big for their mouths.
Then, a couple days later, we went home. I was sad, but I was also happy.
